Golden Links These links are related to the golden ratio. I enjoy adding a little phi fun into my art. This first link will give you a good understanding of the golden section, how to make a golden rectangle, a golden triangle and much more. Golden ratio on Wiki
Myron Barnstones introduces the Golden Section.
Ambigram? An inversion or rotation is a word, lettered in an artistic fashion so that it can be read one way then rotated 180 degrees and be read again. If the word is a different word from the original word it is called a symbiotogram.
Wild/Calm B.Walker symbiotogram Ocillation ambigram does not rotate the glyphs have more than one reading depending on how the curves are interpreted.
Thought The Light B.Walker ocillation An ambigram in which all the letters are made of the same glyph, possibly rotated and/or inverted is called a spinonym. "edge" spinonym by Blake Walker

Creative Light Pictures To make these light photos use a slow shutter speed or a setting on you digital camera that is for low lighting. Turn off all the lights and focus your cam towards some vcr diodes or other L.E.D.s and as the photo is taking move the cam around.
Golden Ratio
This painting I call "divine thread". I was playing with the golden ratio and started with a square which I turned into a "golden rectangle". Using the same proportions I make a golden triangle, then another which makes most of my star. Once I have my golden star I nested more stars of the same "golden ratio"and if you connect the intersections and tips of the stars you see half of a circle.
This "golden pentagram" I made with photo software. Here you can see how the circle is made from golden ratio stars. I love to play around with the golden ratio, and I compare it philosophically with the idea of the golden mean(the Greek idea of the virtue of the middle path). So I can see why sometimes the golden ratio is incorrectly called the golden mean. I always say, "I believe in moderation in all things...including moderation." I have included links on the golden ratio on the left side of the page.
My Ambigram Art
I thought I would share how I play around with my ambigrams. I always start with a pencil and paper, after I have settled on the look of the lettering I will make a dark pen sketch. Then I take several digital pictures of the word or mabey just a single letter. Then using photo software I adjust the brightness and contrast.
For this example I have chosen one of my favorites, an unusual type of ambigram called a perceptual shift, or ocillation. No need rotate, just look at the word again. Next I play around with the filters and colors on the photo software until I get something I like.
I will start saving versions I like and then begin combining the different versions.
